Elite Eats #5- Mama Ji's
Elite Eats is a handpicked lineup of great restaurants, mostly around San Francisco, with a few hidden gems from travels sprinkled in.
My friend discovered Mama Ji’s for her birthday lunch, and it’s been a regular spot for us ever since. My parents loved it too—it was the one place they chose as their 'must-eat-again before leaving SF' meal when they visited us.
What to Try
Triple C Tofu: I have no idea what the triple C stands for, but my guess is crispy, chili, caramelized—and it delivers on all three! The triple C tofu is easily the best tofu dish I’ve ever had. Slightly sweet, tangy, and spicy, it pairs perfectly with rice. It’s a must-order every time we visit Mama Ji’s.
Flash-fried green beans: The freeze-dried green beans are flash-fried for a quick, crunchy bite and topped with peanuts, making for a simple yet flavorful side dish.
Wo Wo Tou: Another standout is the wo wo tou, which we discovered thanks to the owner. The cornbread cups with veggie-tofu mix are as hearty as they are unique, but let’s be real—the triple C tofu is the star of the show.

Ambiance- 4/5
Cozy and homely, Mama Ji’s is a trusty spot, especially on a rainy day. It’s not about fancy decor here—it’s all about the vibe. Bonus points for the reliable parking situation, which is always a win.
Service-5/5
The service is quick and friendly, with the owner often stopping by to chat about specials and new menu items. While the menu has plenty of staples, they’re always experimenting with something fresh, which keeps things exciting.
